PT004 – Planar tension testing:

Load/hold/unload


Description

A planar tension test is performed at a given crosshead speed. The specimen is loaded to a specified strain or stress level, held at the specified strain or stress level for a desired amount of time (typically a few minutes) and unloaded to zero load.  This process is repeated for the desired number of load and unload cycles at the desired strain or stress levels. Strain is measured using a non-contact extensometer.

Temperature Options        

This test can generally be performed at any temperature between -80ºC and 250ºC.

  • CT: Cryogenic temperatures (-80ºC to 20ºC)

  • RT: Room temperature (~ 20ºC)

  • HT: High temperatures (20ºC to 250ºC)

Strain Rates

Strain rates up to ~ 1/s are possible, depending on specimen geometry.

Specimen Requirements        

Specimen must have a width-to-height ratio of 10:1.

Note that we request extra specimens to ensure a sufficient supply of specimens for valid testing.
